Portraits On Humans On The Verge
Auguste Rodin's monumental sculptural work La Porte de l'Enfer(The gate of Hell) illustrated scenes of hell (from Dante's Inferno), with the iconic Fiture of the Thinker/Poet contemplating the destruction brought upon mankind by his own sins.
Todays, we humans are standing on the verge of a major technological shift. Scientists, technologists, and others are developing deep learning machine intelligence, to boose our own intelligence, and help streamline processes; yet these developments could have uncontrollable consequences. Where this could draw us is up for discussion, therefore, our installation gives participants an opportunity to be "The Thinker", reflecting on personal and collective futures with intelligent machines.
Experience Process
That’s the central question of our installation. We offer each participant a moment of personal reflection, a chance for technological engagement, and an output showcasing the distorting potential of emerging technologies using AI-based data analysis.
Step 1. - Take a seat, and reflect on where you think AI will be taking us, while INDEED creates a 3D scan of you.
Step 2. - Give us a short statement on your thoughts.
Step 3. - AI will analyze your input and drive INDEED’s generative design software to create a beautiful digital distortion of your portrait aligned with your sentiment.
Step 4. - You receive the result as a beautiful postcard with the result of the AI analysis and become part of a growing online gallery.
The final result is a co-created snapshot of where we are today, and where we may be heading. Marking a shift in human socio-technical evolution, amidst a digital transformation based on exponential change and new development how humans design.
Mesh Distortion with Sentiment
During the experience, scanned digital fascimilies of the participants is altered using data inputs from the artificial intelligence engine. The AI works to interpret the emotions conveyed in each participants statement, and the quantitative data generated drives INDEED's custom generative design software.In the end, the participants receives the portrait of their faces, distorted and changed by the inputs of an artificial intelligenc algorithm.
Installation Setup
The installation requires two laptops to operate; one display to show the visual distortion of the 3D data; a uni-direcctional microphone to record participants statements, even within noisy surrounding; a 3D scanner to capture the participants "thinking faces"; a photo printer to produce the postcards, a half circle dolly on the tripod, as well as an additianl lighting to improve the quality of the scanning.
